Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has begun constructing the world’s biggest container vessel, ordered by A. P. Moller-Maersk.
When completed, the 18,000 Twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) leviathan will measure 400 m in length and 59 metre in width.
It is the first of 20 boxships DSME is building for the Danish company. The shipbuilder said it plans to deliver the mega vessel in the second half of 2013.
Denmark’s Crown Mr.Prince Frederik and his wife Mary, who were in Korea, attended the ceremony marking the commencement of the vessel’s construction at DSME’s Okpo shipyard in South Gyeongsang Province last week.
