Australia's La Trobe University has entered into an Research and Development (R&D) agreement with leading HCL Technologies. The collaboration involves research and development of Intelligent Transport Systems. "The project deals with problems associated with traffic and infrastructure management, security, enhanced driver safety and logistics support for transport operations."
La Trobe university's senior deputy vice-chancellor professor John Rosenberg, who was in India recently, described the agreement as an "exciting development for the Victoria-based university."
Deputy vice-chancellor (research), Mr. Tim Brown, explained that the HCL transport project is based on technology, which is now undergoing trials in Victoria. The project is a part of a USD 5.5 million rail crossing safety project involving 100 vehicles fitted with special wireless communications systems. "It promises to be of great benefit not only for driving safety and traffic management, but has the potential of creating export markets for Australian innovation," professor Mr. Brown said.
